Pittsburgh Steelers running backs LeVeon Bell and LeGarrette Blount were arrested Wednesday in Ross Township, Pennsylvania for marijuana possession. Bell was also charged with driving under the influence of marijuana (and not alcohol). According to reports, a motorcycle cop smelled pot coming from their car, a black Camaro. After being pulled over for questioning, the officer found 20 grams of marijuana in the car. There was also a woman in the vehicle, and all three admitted the marijuana belonged to them. So what now for Bell and Blount? NFL Substance Abuse Policy Pursuant to the NFLs Policy And Program For Substances Of Abuse a first time offender faces a suspension of "up to" four regular season or post-season games for violations of law for substances not related to alcohol. Marijuana is one such substance. The same policy provides that players are "subject to appropriate discipline as determined by the Commissioner" and "where appropriate, such discipline may include substantially longer suspensions." So that means that a player could face up to a four game suspension for marijuana possession, although the Commissioner has the discretion to make the suspension longer. With respect to a driving under the influence charge, the NFL imposes a two game fine but no suspension. While the league is looking to implement a new rule that would see a player suspended without pay for one game for a first-time DUI offence, for now its just a monetary punishment. Past Cases The NFLs previous treatment of players under similar circumstances gives us a good sense of the likely punishment and time frame facing both Bell and Blount. Indeed, precedent is a valuable tool when seeking to determine the fate of these two players. In November 2013, Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe was arrested for speeding and marijuana possession. The following April, Bowe pleaded guilty to lesser charges, including littering, and last week, was suspended by the NFL for one game. In November 2012, San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle/tight end Demarcus Dobbs was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. He was suspended by the NFL for one game in August 2013. Bills linebacker Nigel Bradham was charged with marijuana possession after a traffic stop in August 2013. On July 30, 2014, the NFL suspended Bradham for one game. In light of the NFLs Substance Abuse Policy and league precedent, expect to see both Bell and Blount suspended for one game. Bell will also get a two game fine for his DUI. As for timing, the league will wait until the legal case has concluded before imposing a punishment. So that buys the players time, and as a result, it would not be a surprise to only see them suspended for the first game of next season. The Steelers do have the option of forcing Bell and Blount to sit a regular season game. Back in 2008, the team did just that with Santonio Holmes, suspending him one game for marijuana possession. While its possible, it seems unlikely the Steelers will suspend Bell and Blount. The team starts the season playing the Cleveland Browns, and they probably dont want to play their division rivals without their top two running backs. Adidas NMD Dames Sale . Speaking on TSN Radio 1050s TSN Drive with Dave Naylor on Monday, Colangelo said he had no intention of tanking the shortened 2011-12 season, but definitely wanted a high pick in the draft. "I wish that word wasnt used for headline reasons," said Colangelo, "but the story behind it was: how can we fix the system? How can we tweak the system to make it less likely that teams are rewarded for losing records? "I do believe that if youre as transparent as we were at the time - with our season seat holders, our fans, the market place and the media - everybody knew what the plan was and what we were going through. http://www.nmdbelgie.com/kopen-adidas-co...al-80-sale.html. Mired in an offensive slump, Lowry - the NBAs leader in taking charges this season - did what he has learned to do best, standing his ground and drawing a crucial offensive foul on the Cavaliers all-star point guard. With Costa risking a retrospective ban, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho defended his striker and blamed the media. What you call stamps and Sky (television) calls crimes, I have to say absolutely (were) accidental, Mourinho told reporters.By denying Brendan Rodgers a first final as Liverpool manager, Mourinho can now prepare for the first since returning to Chelsea in 2013.Chelsea, which won the competition in 2005 and 2007 under Mourinho, will discover its opponent for the March 1 final at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday. Tottenham leads Sheffield United 1-0 heading to Bramall Lane.If there was any doubting the significance of Englands second-tier knockout competition it came with the teamsheet. Unlike on Saturday when a weakened Chelsea was humiliated 4-2 here by third-tier Bradford, Mourinho was taking this trophy more seriously.Chelsea was back at full strength, with top-scorer Costa restored to the line-up. The Spain striker made his mark early on, by leaving a mark on Cans right ankle. The stamp came in front of the benches and fourth official Phil Dowd, but Costa avoided even a yellow card.He could easily hurdle over the young player and he directs his studs right on to his ankle, which couldve been nasty, Rodgers said.Costa was the aggrieved player in the 22nd miinute when he was tripped by Skrtel and referee Michael Oliver dismissed the penalty appeal.ddddddddddddIts so clear, so clear, and that is difficult to accept, said Mourinho, who raged at the time on the touchline as the game became increasingly fiery. It was Mourinhos goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, who preserved parity. The sprawling Belgian saved from Alberto Moreno and used his outstretched left leg to deny Philippe Coutinho.Liverpool was exhibiting the attacking verve that was the hallmark of last seasons run to second in the Premier League, but had been lacking in the opening months of this season. The visitors, however, could find no way past Courtois. The second half witnessed another flare-up involving Costa, which Oliver seemed to miss. After Skrtels sliding tackle, Costa stepped on the defenders left boot.Theres no need to do it. Thats the sad thing of it, Rodgers said. Hes a top-class player and hes clever enough that the officials dont see it.Costa then used his boot for shooting not stamping, but a scrappy shot was blocked by goalkeeper Simon Mignolets left leg.Mignolet, who was dropped in December before regaining his place after Brad Jones was injured, then tackled Costa as the striker tried to round him.In the search for a winner, Rodgers brought on misfiring striker Mario Balotelli for Lazar Markovic. But the Italians main contribution was allowing Ivanovic to evade him to head in the winner. Away goals only count after 120 minutes, but Ivanovics third goal of the season ensured Chelsea is back in the League Cup final after a six-year absence. There was time for one last flare-up, though. Both Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Costa were booked after tangling. For Gerrard, defeat reduces his chances of ending his Liverpool career in May with a trophy. For us to be successful, its got to hurt at times as well, Rodgers said. ' ' '
